Hiệu Gauss được dùng thay Laplacian of Gaussian chuẩn hoá vì nó XẤP XỈ được LoG mà tính rẻ hơn nhiều — chỉ cần trừ hai ảnh đã làm mờ. Nó không tốt hơn LoG về chất lượng, chỉ nhanh hơn.
